SEMINAR “BIOSYNTHESIS OF FLAVONOID GLYCOSIDE DERIVATIVES” BY PROF. JAE KYUNG SOHNG FROM SUN MOON UNIVERSITY, ON AUGUST 9TH, 2023

Prof. Jae Kyung Sohng presented the recent research results on approaches of metabolic engineering for the development of microbial cell factories for biosynthesis and modification of valuable flavonoids. Some have used safe bacteria Corynebaterium glutamicum as factories for the production of flavonoid glycoside compounds; some have used recombinant C-glycosyltransferases to obtain compounds with higher stability. Many compounds such as flavonoids and terpenoids have been successfully synthesized, using O-glucosyltransferases or C-glycosyltransferases. By optimizing fermentation conditions, cell factory strains can increase the synthesis efficiency significantly. Professor also provided some ideas for developing future researches that may be suitable in Vietnam.

The seminar was a opportunity for participating scientists opening up ideas for future cooperation as well as provided the students broader view into researches on secondary metabolites to develop in the future.

After the seminar, the Professor and guests visited laboratories at the Faculty of Biology.
