On behalf of the Faculty, the Dean Assoc.Prof. Nguyen Lan Hung Son introduced an overview of the Faculty, including organizational structure, undergraduate and postgraduate training programs in the Faculty. From the Iowa State University, Dr. Morton gave an introduction of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The college has several departments related to those in the Faculty of Biology, i.e., Animal Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Genetics, Development and Cell Biology, Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Plant Pathology and Microbiology.
The Uninverity’s interest areas include:
- Utilizing experience from multiple, diverse systems to solve complex environmental problems.
- Increase seed sector capacity, and quality control.
- Collect images for artificial intelligence (AI) cellphone app to further diagnose and treat crop pests.
- Expand mutually beneficial collaborative opportunities for students, teachers, and future community leaders.
Especially, the team from Iowa State University provided a list of researchers who have professional experiences, which will be able to give online or offline seminars to faculty staff in the Faculty of Biology, HNUE.
They are:
- Shelley Taylor- Coordinating cross-cultural student exchanges, healthy cultural adaptation, international relationship building, logistical support.
- Dr. Lois Morton- Sustainable rural livelihoods, sociology, watershed management, systematic agriculture solutions, berry farming, sustainable resource management.
- Dr. Joe Colletti- Forestry, economics of natural resources, ecology management.
- Dr. Arti Singh- Plant breeding (mung bean), practical application of Artificial Intelligence, development and commercialization of mung bean.
- Dr. Ajay Nair- Horticulture, enhancing crop production, soil health, and profitability of vegetable crops in Iowa. Sustainable cropping practices.
- Max Eness- Graduate student in soil science seeking research project collaboration.
We discussed the possibility of cooperation, and the areas of interest of the two universities. This meeting is the first step and precious meeting, which will be able to start a wonderful collaboration in the near future. At the end of the meeting, the team from Iowa State University visited the facilities and laboratories in the Faculty.
We are looking forward to seeing a further successful cooperation.
